Types of Problems Orthodontics Can Address

One way to determine if you need orthodontics is if you possess one or more of the following problems.

  • Crossbite – When the upper teeth don’t rest in front of the lower teeth when biting the teeth together.
  • Overbite – When the upper teeth lie too far forward and fall over the front teeth. Also known as buck teeth.
  • Underbite – When the lower teeth position themselves too far forward and come up over the top teeth.
  • Open bite – When there is a space between the two biting surfaces of the side or front teeth when biting together.
  • Misplaced midline – When the center of your upper and lower teeth does not match up with the center of your face.
  • Spacing issues – When teeth have spaces between them.
  • Crowding – When there is not enough room in the mouth to accommodate all teeth.
  • Crookedness – When teeth are turned instead of straight.

The Benefits of Straight Teeth

If you’re searching for reasons to improve your smile, we’ve got plenty. First and foremost, straightening your teeth can help you improve your smile’s appearance. If you tend to hide your smile because you feel embarrassed about the way it looks, straighter teeth can help with this.

Straightening your teeth can also make it easier to keep your teeth clean and healthy. It’s easy to get food and plaque stuck between teeth if they’re too crowded or crooked to take care of properly.

Straightening your teeth can also help resolve or prevent TMJ conditions from developing. Also, properly aligned teeth are less likely to experience uneven wear or unfavorable jaw growth

Orthodontics Lee’s Summit, MOTypes of Orthodontic Treatments

At the Center for TMJ and Sleep Apnea, we offer several different orthodontic treatments to meet the needs of all of our different patients. We begin seeing children as young as 5 years old to adults and seniors. There’s never a wrong time to explore the orthodontic treatment options available to you or the benefits they bring your smile.

Orthodontic Aligners

One of our most popular orthodontic treatments in teens and adults is Invisalign or similar orthodontic aligner. Invisalign or similar orthodontic aligners are an orthodontic system that uses clear removable aligners to slowly push teeth into their most ideal position. Our patients love Invisalign or similar orthodontic aligners because they’re nearly invisible and they’re removable for eating and brushing and flossing. This convenient orthodontic treatment is a great option for most teens and adults with mild to moderate problems.

Traditional Braces

While Invisalign or similar orthodontic aligners are a great option, it isn’t the best solution for every patient. Some of our patients have more severe orthodontic problems they need to address or can’t trust themselves to wear their aligners as often as they should. Whatever the reason may be, we also offer a traditional orthodontic option. These have been around for years and are still around for one reason: they work well!

Holistic Orthodontic Treatments

One aspect that makes our office unique is that we offer holistic orthodontic treatments. We carry several different devices to help young children as young as four years old experience correct jaw development. Our devices allow children to develop a more aesthetic facial appearance, better functioning airway, and temporomandibular joint and potentially prevent the need for traditional braces or Invisalign or similar orthodontic aligner down the line.

Expedited Orthodontics

To help expedite the orthodontic treatment process, we also utilize two technologies that promote more rapid tooth movement to reduce the complete treatment time.

VPro

Another excellent implementation within our practice is the VPro+. The VPro is a lightweight tool that can easily be used at home or on the go. Utilizing the VPro+ is very simple and is only recommended for use five minutes per day!

The VPRo is a “U” shaped mechanism that is placed between one’s upper and lower teeth while it vibrates. The VPro is most beneficial coupled with alveoloplasty procedure but also has accomplishments of its own. When a patient is in orthodontic care, the VPros vibration technology can aid in more rapid tooth movement. Its high-frequency vibration assists in activating the bone.

VPRo+ is a vibration technology that can promote more rapid tooth movement. It is a lightweight tool that provides high-frequency vibration which stimulates the bone, allowing more rapid tooth movement.

Micro-Osteoperforation (MOPS)

MOPS is an alveoloplasty technique with the purpose of accelerating the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. It is done with Propel instrumentation. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes using a topical and local anesthetic, small indentations are made into gum tissues, stimulating the bone around the tooth where the movement is desired. This procedure can reduce the duration of orthodontic treatment by up to 50%.
